What’s the difference between glamour portrait and boudoir photography?

Glamour Photography

Glamour photography focuses on the beauty of the person in the photograph. It isn’t always well understood. It is a genre that can celebrate sexual attraction. Because of this, it sometimes makes photographers or the clients apprehensive.

Glamour shots focus on physical beauty. Photographers piece together several different aspects. This is to highlight that ethereal fairy tale beauty. From the wardrobe and makeup to lighting and post processing. All the different elements work together to celebrate the subject’s beauty. For many, glamour photography is about giving women confidence and making them feel beautiful.

For photographers, glamour photography is a portrait session. But one that maximizes the subject’s beauty. It’s a portrait session that can involve makeup, wardrobe choices, and fine-tuned poses.

Others define glamour photography as something a bit more sensual. These types of images still celebrate beauty but in a more flirtatious way. These glamour shots highlight attraction. But photographers can do that with posing and light. Not only wardrobe.

That doesn’t mean the model is always wearing revealing clothing. But sometimes photographers will define glamour as boudoir-like shots. Even if they are outside the boudoir (or bedroom).

What matters in glamour photography is how everything comes together to celebrate beauty. Whether that’s in an understated way or a more alluring one.

Boudoir Photography

A Boudoir Photography session is a very emotional experience and a gift that keeps on giving for the women, and their loved ones, who have the courage to book a shoot. A boudoir shoot is a sub-genre of glamour photography.

Boudoir also celebrates beauty, but in a more obvious sexual way. Boudoir photography subjects are often wearing lingerie. And, as the name suggests, it takes place in a bedroom, other private location or also in the studio.

These shoots — and glamour, for that matter — aren’t about creating a response from the viewer.

Boudoir can help women feel more confident in their own skin. For example, new brides often gift their husbands with boudoir images.

In a world full of selfies, boudoir photography is meant to capture the true emotion behind each client and help people accept their bodies and value themselves.

What about glamdoir?

Glamdoir is the perfect combination of intimate or boudoir photography and glamour photography. They have the same purpose which is to celebrate YOU, your beauty, confidence and love of yourself. The only thing that makes them different is how much or little clothes you wear.

Personally I find my photography style close to glamdoir where I combine elements of both genres, often adding an editorial feel to my images. I love fashion and magazine shoots are often my inspiration in terms of posing and styling. I do prefer simple setups, in terms of styling and lighting, as I believe too much distraction takes away from the subject and may not look so chic and classy years later.

Top reasons you may want to have a glamour or boudoir session

  • to celebrate an important milestone in your life
  • to empower yourself and build up confidence
  • to give yourself or a loved one a unique gift
  • to create a visual legacy for yourself and your family
  • to nurture and heal your relationship with your body
  • to conquer fear and prove to yourself that you’re beautiful
  • because you are a badass and want the photos to prove it
  • because you worked hard for your body
  • because you kicked cancer’s ass
  • because you are proud of your scars / piercing / tattoos / strechmarks
  • because we owe it to ourselves to better our relationship to our body

Make it happen!

Talk to me about your glamour or boudoir photoshoot. I want to know your story and how you would love to be photographed.

Publication in Marti Magazine Fri, 21 Jun 2019 19:39:39 +0000 Read More

I’m so pleased with publication of my black & white beauty editorial in a lifestyle and fashion magazine MARTI. The magazine is lead by an amazing photographer Christoph Marti. His signature look is dark black and white images so his magazine seemed like a perfect publishing medium for my work.

I’ve always been drawn to the black and white images as without the distraction from colours, the viewer can focus more on shapes, emotion and drama. I’ve achieved this thanks to Beata Potomska MUA who created makeup for this session. Have a look at other images from my editorial here Black is the new Black

This was a special edition of Marti released in April 2019. Editorial team selected my images for publishing amongst some incredibly talented fashion and portrait photographers in Europe. I was so happy as I really loved how the images came out. It definitely was not a typical beauty editorial but it was exactly the look and feel I wanted to create.

Here’s an embedded version of the magazine so have a browse.

You can also download a free digital copy of Marti Magazine so click here to get yours.

Pierre Garroudi show in London Fri, 21 Jun 2019 19:29:04 +0000 Read More

Some intriguing designs from Pierre Garroudi, avantgarde makeup and nail art made this show last Saturday night (15.02) at the ChinaTown Exchange. The collection was supposed to shock every viewer and it certainly did that. Pierre’s motto is : outrageousness is in, get over it and dress up.

I have to say I had mixed feelings myself but a lot of people loved it. All the fashion bloggers enjoyed the show for sure. Some of my pics even ended up being published in a newspaper. And what do you think of these designs?

Have a look at few backstage and catwalk pics.

The winter beauty image edit Tue, 18 Jun 2019 22:06:25 +0000 Read More

See the tricks of my trade and see me edit this beauty image. This image has been retouched using some basic Photoshop tools which allowed me perfect the skin whilst still keeping the skin texture. No plugins, skin blurring, smoothing or a digital noise used.

I use the same techniques for both portrait and fashion photography. However I tend to use lighter retouching on a portraits unless clients requests it.
