If you are considering having a professional glamour portrait or boudoir photoshoot in Worcester, here is what you can expect when booking your luxury portrait experience with Renata Clarke Photography.

CONSULTATIONS

Together, we design your photoshoot, colours and clothes you would like to wear. I will also send you guides with beauty preparation timeline as well as my style guide that will advise you on the best wardrobe options for your photoshoot.

We will also talk about how you are planning to display your photos at home and how we can create the images that will go with the colour scheme and style of your home. Then we will discuss the overall mood and how you’d like to look in your new portraits. We go through examples of different types of images and select the ones that best show your personality and feel like you.

Saying this, I always watch my clients carefully during the session to adjust their posing to how they naturally move and how confident they feel. The session is always a combination of your own style as well as my vision and feel of you. I observe how you present yourself, how you move and this helps me find the best poses and angles for your portraits. Sometimes only a tiny adjustment in pose or expression makes a huge difference. Also the same pose will look different with every person.

We will have two consultations, either in person in my studio, over the phone or video call. First one immediately after or during your booking and the second one around 1 week before your shoot, which will be more a try-on appointment, to finalise your wardrobe and accessories choice.

GLAM MAKEOVER & STYLING

This day is like a SPA Day! It is all about YOU! Whether you would like to celebrate a life milestone, treat yourself or your loved one to a dream photoshoot or just need a professional headshot for your LinkedIn profile – this experience will change the way you see your own beauty.

First, I will explain you the flow of your photoshoot with coordinated wardrobe and backdrops. A professional hair and make-up artist will make you look gorgeous. We will go for more of a timeless elegance look rather than any new makeup trends to ensure your images look chic decades from now. The makeup artist will only use products and techniques which look great in camera (so no heavy contouring or loads of layers of makeup).

We want you to absolutely love your images so be sure to let the artist know if you’d like any adjustments to your styling.

MAGAZINE STYLE PHOTOSHOOT

Once you’re dressed and ready, I will guide you though a series of poses designed to flatter your shape and showcase your beauty. I will connect with you in a way that captures genuine expressions and the light that shines from inside you. The photoshoot will take about 2 – 3 hours with 4 – 5 wardrobe changes. You get to wear multiple outfits so that you will have photos for a variety of occasions. Together, we will create the best portraits you have ever seen of yourself. At the end of your session we will set the date for your reveal and ordering appointment.

REVEAL & ORDERING

Your reveal and ordering appointment will be set approximately 2 -3 weeks from the date of your shoot. This will give me enough time to review and professionally retouch the best images.

On the day you will have a personal viewing session in my Worcester studio where I will present you your beautifully edited images for the first time. We will carefully review all your images one by one and you will select the ones you love most. My goal is to make sure you fall in love with them all! In this session, you’ll have the chance to decide on one of the portrait collections I offer or select items a la carte.

What you buy is entirely up to you, you only purchase what you really want. There is absolutely no minimum purchase or an obligation to buy afterwards. With that being said, I always do my best to create images that you’ll absolutely love and don’t want to be without 🙂

Not sure how to prepare for your makeover glamour photoshoot?

Preparing for a styled glamour photoshoot is very important but can be overwhelming. A makeover photoshoot focuses entirely on the woman, highlighting her facial and bodily features. Every aspect of the frame is intended to be flattering and eye-catching, making her feel confident and powerful. Good preparation is the key factor in producing beautiful images during your session.

If this is your first time booking a professional glamour or makeover photoshoot, here are a few tips from a portrait photographer for timeless photos capturing you in your absolute best.

Remember, these tips are here to help you think of ideas for preparing for your shoot, but are definitely not required, or even necessary for everybody. Just choose what fits in with your budget, lifestyle, and current beauty regimen, and go from there!

Go For a Manicure

The camera captures every single detail. So start with your nails and opt for a relaxing mani-pedi a day or two before your photoshoot. This will ensure that your nails look gorgeous on camera.

Putting on a dark nail colours will make your hands look prettier and super-intriguing. You could also opt for a fancier option like a beautiful French manicure. Avoid using bright or unusual nail colours as that will draw too much attention to your nails.

If you choose to do your nails at home, make sure to file them well and trim your cuticles. Nobody likes messy nails!

beauty checklist before your portrait photoshoot

Prep Your Face

A glamour photoshoot enhances your facial features incredibly, amplifying the appearance of pores, acne and fine lines. A good skincare routine is the answer to make your skin glow on camera!

Here are a few steps to help prep your face before makeup application for your photoshoot.

  • Use a good face cleanser to get rid of dirt and excess oil from your skin
  • Apply a facemask that suits your skin
  • Exfoliate your skin
  • Use a toner that suits your skin type
  • Apply face serum to prep your skin
  • treat yourself to a facial around a week before your portrait session so that any possible skin irritation or peeling is gone before your photos are taken.

Avoid indulging in oily or fast food at least a few days before your photoshoot so that your skin remains clear and acne-free.

beauty checklist before your portrait photoshoot

Touch-Up Your Hair

Colour

All your features will be amplified during the photoshoot. If your hair colour is fading, now would be a good time to go for a touch-up! However, make sure that you go for a touch-up a few days before the shoot so you get accustomed to it. Furthermore, we wouldn’t recommend any drastic colour changes before the shoot as you don’t know how it will turn out.

Trim or Haircut

To make sure that your hair looks great on camera, get a haircut or a trim! Not only will this make your hair look healthy but it will also transform your entire look.

Deep Condition

Soft hair will make it easier for your  hairdresser to give you a gorgeous hairdo. If you’re looking to make your hair smoother – deep-conditioning is the way to go! While paying a visit to the hair salon is a great idea, you can also apply a good hair mask at home.

Book a Hair Removal Appointment

You should be prepared for anything and everything on the day of your shoot. Getting rid of your body hair should be a priority. Pay a visit to the salon to get your arms and legs waxed.

beauty checklist before your portrait photoshoot

Pick the Right Clothes

Solid Colours

Solid-coloured outfits are the way to go for a glamour photoshoot! Not only do they look great on camera, but they also amplify your gorgeous bodily features.

Avoid Patterns and Prints

Big and patterned prints should be avoided at all costs. Not only do they make you appear bulky, but they also ruin the overall look and feel of your photos.

Pay Attention to the Fitting of the Clothes

Adorn clothes that are right for your body type! You don’t want to wear outfits that are either too loose or too tight for you as they will make your body look unflattering. So, make sure that the clothes for your photoshoot fit you perfectly.

Have a look below at my ideas of classy and chic outfits that would be perfect for a makeover portrait session.

How long do the digital photos last? https://renataclarkephotography.com/make-your-digital-photos-last/ Sat, 08 Feb 2020 12:44:13 +0000 https://renataclarkephotography.com/?p=2077 Read More

Can I store my digital photos for ever?

Nothing lasts for ever, and digital images can disappear in seconds. People lose their most important photos every day when hard drives fail, when smartphones and laptops are stolen, when online services shut down, and when natural disasters strike. Fires, floods and earthquakes can also destroy digital records.

To be really safe, you should have more than one copy of each photo, stored in more than one way in more than one place.

Operating systems, software and file formats also keep changing, so being able to see a file doesn’t mean you can load it. Happily, the standard JPG/JPEG picture file format may well last “for ever” despite efforts to replace it with JPEG 2000, PNG, SVG and many others.

Making digital photos last involves:
* moving the data to new storage systems before the old one fails or becomes unreadable.
* converting files to whichever format becomes dominant before the old one is abandoned.

Hard drives

The one thing we know about hard drives is that most of them fail sooner rather than later. Some drives fail after a few months while others work for a decade or more. There is no way of knowing. Good rule of thumb is that a drive is increasingly likely to fail after five years or 50,000 hours of use. If you want to keep photos for 50 years, you might have to store them on roughly 10 hard drives in all.

To keep your files safe using another hard drive as a backup is a usable minimum. However, backup drives have their limitations. First, your data is vulnerable both to human error and to malicious software. Second, your data is still at risk of being stolen or destroyed by fire, flood or some other disaster.

External backup drives

If your external hard drive is always plugged into your PC, then you can delete whole folders by accident, or by making errors when copying files. If your PC is infected by malware such as ransomware, it will usually encrypt files on external hard drives as well.

SSD drives

External SSDs are a little more expensive but benefit from having no moving parts on the inside. The advantage over hard drives is that there is less chance of something going wrong. With no moving parts, they are rugged and shock-proof.

However, SSD’s use semiconductor cells to store data. Unfortunately, the electrons will leak over time (that’s how SSD’s wear down), but they will leak much faster is your store your SSD unpowered.

In other words, an SSD disk with no power will lose data fast.

storage for digital photos

CD, DVD and USB

It is a good idea to keep backups on removable storage media. With CD or DVD, you should use high-quality discs and store them in a cool, dark and dry place. USB thumbdrives and SD memory cards are not suitable for long-term archival storage because the charge decays over long periods. Ideally, they should be refreshed every four or five years.

Cloud storage

Storing photos “in the cloud” – basically, on someone else’s collection of hard drives – solves all the problems of using local hard drives and of transferring data to new physical media. But it is important to remember that data in the cloud is not safe and not under your control.

The biggest risks with cloud storage are being locked out of your account, being hacked by someone who deletes all your stuff, and by your account being closed if you don’t pay any charges required. Of course, online storage services may also shut down or go bust (check Megaupload).

Many large companies offer photo storage services however, these can be expensive if you need a lot of storage, and your photos will not be as accessible as they are on a local hard drive.

Be careful of services that don’t preserve your original photos exactly as you uploaded them. Facebook’s photo storage is free but it reduces images from printable quality to web-viewing quality. There are many alternatives, but the largest players – Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Google and Microsoft – are most likely to be around in the long term. Of course, prices and terms may change, and if you store photos for 50 or 100 years, the cost adds up.

So how can you really preserve your digital files?

It’s simple: you can preserve your images by printing them!

Don’t just print them at home or any of the cheap instant printing machines. Go for professional printing labs which use highly specialised HD printers and top quality paper. The best one is the archival grade paper used also in museums and art galleries which depending on type may last for 100 or even up to 200 hundred years.

When investing into a professional portrait session, choose photographer who provides the highest quality printed art options. These not only present your portraits as an amazing piece of art but also ensure it’s going to last for many years to come.

The best options are large framed prints and premium folio boxes with matted prints which will protect your images from damage and at the same time – they will be great addition to your home decor. In some cases, like wedding photography, I would also recommend high quality albums with at least 800 gsm spreads, ideally ordered with matching album box.

As a society, we now produce more photographs than ever before. In the era of camera in every phone, we all take loads of photos all the time. Many of them are shared on social media, but many more will simply be forgotten. But hardly any will make the transition into the physical world – a print.

Print isn’t dead — it’s better than ever

We may no longer print every photo by default, but this can actually be a good thing for printing. It is now about quality rather than quantity, and the pictures we choose to print deserve the best treatment. Honestly, there has never been a better time to print than now, thanks to technological advances in both digital cameras and printers.

Printed photographs are heirloom items. They hold the power to start conversation, to bring people closer, to elicit emotion. They have the ability to document a story. My story. My Facebook feed doesn’t tell my story. Facebook isn’t beautiful. The photo album on my phone is temporary. It’s not exciting. It’s for split-second mini moments. But printed photo art is forever. It is impactful. It makes a tangible memories.

Digital files are not archives

You need to think of digital photos as temporary storage. They are a way to get from our session or your holidays or first day of school to your walls and photo albums. CDs, USBs, and hard drives do not last forever. The cloud fails to back up. You lose your phone. Your hard drive packs up. Your cloud storage account gets locked out. Your laptop gets stolen. Or simply your digital photos sit on your computer to be completely forgotten and never looked at again.

Free the photos!

You need to free your photos from your phone and hard drive! Our generation will be the most photographed generation with the fewest photos to show for it.

Why print your images?

  • Because your prints are for today, tomorrow and all the tomorrows after that.
  • Because prints remind us of what love really feels like.
  • Because they’re only young once.
  • Because the place to save money is not on the most important purchases.
  • Because so many photos get lost, or even worse, deleted off of old hard drives.
  • Because you can touch and feel your memories.
  • Because you put too much work into your family not to show them off!
  • Because technology comes and goes.
  • Because photography is best enjoyed in print.
  • Because a memory stick in a drawer is pointless.
  • Because a hard drive doesn’t trigger a smile.
  • Because memories are tied to touch.
  • Because you can instantly improve your self-esteem by displaying a beautiful portrait on a wall in your home
premium folio box with prints Renata Clarke Glamour and Boudoir Photography Worcester

I offer premium printed photos because I believe in print. Printed photos will be looked at every day. Prints will last you a lifetime and will be heirloom items passed down from generation to generation. You can’t do that with a USB stick or CD or even with your Dropbox account. What will the computers and laptops look like in 20 years? Most already don’t have a CD drive and the USB may be replaced by another type of storage in the future. What if your photos are trapped on a USB drive forever? You’ll have nothing to show to your children. No photos to share of the time that was. These photographs are your story. Show them the respect and care that they deserve.

I am a Glamour Portrait Photographer specialising in a fashion style of contemporary photography for women. I offer the experience of an amazing magazine photo shoot with hair, make-up and wardrobe styling. That’s how I define my brand, but the personal side for me is to take women on a journey of self acceptance and empowerment. To watch them unfold from vulnerability to trust and allow them to see themselves at their most beautiful. Women of all ages get to come in to my studio to spend a day of dress up, pampering and fun. Followed by beautiful portraits that they can keep and share. It’s a mixture of fun and excitement and wonderment for me to watch these women transform to confidence in front of me. It’s part fantasy and a whole lot of Soul.

The glamour portrait photography, since the advent of the 20th century, has been through quite a ride, encountering both harsh criticism and evolving in style. To best define it, we probably have to describe any photo of the sort: overly softened, big hair, attractive clothing, sensual poses and facial expressions, focused on beauty of the person photographed. The clothing can vary from a ball gown or a corporate outfits to lingerie or even tastefully applied nude.

If we look up the term “glamour” inside a dictionary, it will define it as â€śthe quality of fascinating, alluring, or attracting, especially by a combination of charm and good looks.” When it comes to photography as an artistic medium, it means capturing and conveying all these qualities through an image; in fact, this kind of picture goes even further and portrays sexuality, style, beauty and confidence as well, in an unusually appealing manner. Perhaps saying that glamour photography is dedicated to making women look beautiful in a sophisticated way is what describes it all best.

But what does a glamour portrait mean to the women who decide to go ahead with the photoshoot? Apart from fancy clothing, is this any different from having a standard photo taken? Wouldn’t it be easier and cheaper just to pop in to any local studio, known to have photographed masses of families, children, couples and events? What makes the glamour genre stand out and worth investing into?

Women decide to book a glamour photoshoot experience for a number of reasons. Most of them simply want to be pampered and feel like a real superstar for the day. We live busy lives these days and for us, women, there is usually hardly any time we can focused on ourselves only. Work, children, partner, house, other family members, friends, hobby… the list goes on and on. We often feel guilty spending more money on ourselves as we think there are other, higher priorities. However we still long to feel attractive, wanted or maybe just simply want to accept ourselves the way we are.

How would a bunch of photographs make you feel better about yourself? Well, it isn’t just about photographs. A professional photoshoot is an experience and photographs are the final product. But the journey to self acceptance and empowerment starts from pre-shoot consultation designing your future images, through the series of preparation guides from your photographer, then the hair and make up on the day and finally styling and the photoshoot itself – it is a hell of a journey. And then the wait till the reveal day when you can finally see you finished images! This is the most exciting and touching moment of the whole experience for both your photographer and yourself. Women usually cry during the reveal seeing their beautiful portraits printed and spread across a whole wall. It’s incredibly moving.

Other women would love to leave a legacy of amazing images for themselves and their loved ones. This is so important as often we do not have any decent photographs taken or if we do not accept ourselves, we stop taking photographs completely. As a result we don’t exist in images at all. I strongly encourage all women to leave a visual legacy of beautiful portraits that will last many years to come.

In the era of everyone being a photographer or taking selfies with ridiculous filters all the time, having a session with a professional glamour photographer is a completely different experience. And – of course – it results with completely different images. I’m not only talking about the quality of the images such as sharpness, colour, background blur etc. that can be achieved only with professional cameras and lenses. I’m talking about composition, posing, lighting and retouching. This is not something one can achieve on their own without appropriate equipment and experience.

Why wouldn’t you do a glamour photoshoot simply with any local photographer? All photographers, as with many other professions, have their specialties. Yes, there are a lot of photographers doing absolutely everything and having huge amounts of client. They range from family and newborns, to pet and product photography, from makeover to cake smashes, from weddings to covering commercial events and more. But are they truly specialists in all of these genres?

Magazine style photoshoot is sometimes a once in a lifetime experience so you need to carefully select your photographer. The photographs, especially when printed on high quality paper, will last generations. Make sure you choose a photographer who really does specialise in boutique photoshoot experience for women, starting from detailed preparation guides for the clients, through styling and posing as well as end products that you would proudly display in your home.

If you are considering a professional glamour portrait photoshoot and luxury print art products for your portraits, you can schedule a complimentary consultation with me HERE.

10 Preparation Tips For Glamour & Boudoir Photoshoot https://renataclarkephotography.com/preparation-tips-glamour-boudoir/ https://renataclarkephotography.com/preparation-tips-glamour-boudoir/#comments Sun, 01 Dec 2019 18:32:20 +0000 https://renataclarkephotography.com/?p=1821 You want to do this right, and every detail should be perfect. If you’re investing time and money into your glamour or boudoir session, the last thing you want is to have a rip in your lace corset or a run in your stockings the day of your shoot. If you have a backup, you can switch, and save the session. Although artistically “distressed” articles can look good in a photo, for most of us, unseemly rips (especially in certain areas) are the last thing that we want.

1. Do This For Yourself

No matter who you are doing this boudoir shoot for, deep down it is really for YOU. The end result (photographs) may be going to someone else, but the experience itself is ALL yours. It is just me and you in the room during the shoot and I want you to be comfortable, have fun and WORK IT!

2. Do Spend Time Trying On and Testing Outfits

It’s no secret that our bodies change over time, we gain weight, we lose weight, we have children, we spend more time at the gym. Some things that used to look great on us just won’t anymore, and some things that we couldn’t quite fit into we will rock now. Also, clothes that have been in the closet or in the drawer for a while, depending on the material, will change with time – thanks to humidity and gravity and us not wearing them. So, if you bring an outfit for your session that you used to love but haven’t worn in a while, you might be in for a surprise.

Instead of dealing with these potential “whoops” moments, take the time to try on any and all potential outfits.

The more you have to bring the better, because options are always good, but you don’t want to make the mistake of bringing a lot of things that aren’t right for you. The day of your shoot, you want to feel confident and on top of the world. So bring those outfits. And if your closet doesn’t bring that va-va-voom you’re looking for, maybe it’s time to go shopping. You never need an excuse to go shopping, but it’s nice to have one. Your upcoming glamour portrait or boudoir session is definitely an excuse.

3. Do Wear Loose Fitting Comfy Clothes to the Studio

Skip the bra, skip the socks, skip the watch, and forget that belt, those tight jeans, and anything else which could leave an impression in your skin. It may seem like a small thing, but these lines can dampen the look of a great negligé. Besides, you want to relax and feel confident, and tight clothes are only going to restrict you.

We will provide you a lovely silk bathrobe you can wear during your bombshell makeover so even if you came in not super glamorous outfit, this will certainly make you feel like a star getting prepped for a big shoot.

4. Do Book your Appointment Date after Your Monthlies

Nobody wants to ruin a potentially empowering boudoir session because they’re crabby, cramping, and bloated, Instead, book the week after your period when you’re high energy and feeling normal again. Your boudoir photos will look better with no strings attached, really.

5. Do Drink Plenty of Fluids

Three words: Water. Water. Water. And make sure to avoid alcohol and salt, as these will turn your lovely skin to the texture of potato chips, which just isn’t pretty.

6. Do Rock Clothes that are Right for Your Body

Everybody’s different, and everybody is beautiful. Wear the clothes that you not only feel confident in, but accent your incredible body. If you’re on a thinner side and want some curves, wear brighter colors and horizontal lines, there are so many decadent varieties of bra/panty combos that you’ll want for nothing in your quest for fabulousness.

If you’re on the curvier side and want to add some balance, try super-slimming fishnet stockings. Not certain how to dress your body the right way? Ask your boudoir photographer, they’ll have tons more tips for you as well, as they will know what will look great and what not so great.

7. Don’t Fake Tan

No sprays, no gels, no lotions. If you want a natural sun-kissed glow book a couple of sessions in a professional salon that has tanning beds, and do it in the nude (no unsightly lines this way). The last thing you want is to a) look like a sexy pumpkin or b) pay more than you have to in retouching fees.

8. Do Touch Up the Basics

If you dye your hair, get your hair done the week of your glamour or boudoir session. Shave or wax everything, the day of if possible, and spring for a mani-pedi.You’d be amazed how these little details can make or break a photo session. These pictures are going to be around for a while, reminding you of just how awesome you look, don’t skimp the small stuff.

9. Don’t Think all Portrait Photographers Are Made Equal

Do your research! Take advantage of free consultations, read reviews, scour through online galleries and portfolios and check what services exactly are included in the photoshoot experience. Don’t be fooled into thinking that just because someone says they know what they’re doing and they happen to fit the right “price range” that they’re offering a quality experience. This is often a once in a lifetime event, and you should do it the right way. Choose someone who is talented, professional, trustworthy, someone whose style you actually love. And keep in mind that you will usually get exactly what you pay for.

It’s an investment, give it the attention it deserves.

10. Do Relax

It’ll be fun. Promise! If you are still looking for something special, contact me to arrange a chic glamour portrait session or an elegant confidence boosting boudoir photoshoot.

Have you ever considered having a boudoir photoshoot but never quite gathered the courage to book one? There are so many misconceptions about boudoir amongst clients as well as photographers themselves. I’ve listed few most common ones that will hopefully help you find out a little bit more what boudoir really is about.

Click the question to expand its content.

You Have To Bare All

If you were to poll 100 people and ask them what boudoir photography was to them you would more than likely get comments such as “trashy lingerie”, “half naked women” and “borderline pornography”.  Just like with any other genre of photography there are different styles for shooting the same thing. While some photographers will choose to shoot racier shots, there are other photographers (like myself) that choose to shoot classier, more romantic shots. You don’t have to show a lot of skin to be sexy!

You don’t have to be nude, or even be in lingerie. Your boudoir session is customized to showcase you at your most beautiful, whatever that means to you. If your favourite old band tee and pyjama bottoms make you feel like your most sensational self, there’s nothing wrong with that! I will always tailor your shoot to your comfort level, outfit preferences and desires.

You Need Someone To Gift Photos To

Having a boudoir session done as a gift to a groom, fiancé, boyfriend or someone special in your life is a wonderful idea. However, scheduling a boudoir session just for yourself is just as delightful! Stepping out of your day-to-day life and into a space where you can channel your inner vixen is a unique experience. Boudoir photos are never merely a gift to someone else. Instead, they’re a gift to yourself, and whomever you choose to share them with.

You Aren’t the Right Shape, Shade, and Style of Woman

You are enough. Regardless of what society tells you about yourself, you are enough. Boudoir is for any shape, shade, or style of woman. You are gorgeous just as you are, so you never need to worry about your beauty not coming across on camera. Leave your negativity at the door and allow our glam squad and skilled lens to amplify what makes you amazing and leave you with a lasting memory of the experience.

There is no such thing as a “perfect figure”. Every woman has flaws and insecurities about their body. Before each session I ask my clients what their favorite and least favorite body parts are and I have never had a client that didn’t have something about themselves that they didn’t like. Boudoir photography is about embracing everything beautiful about YOU! It’s about creating beautiful pieces of art that showcase the curves and lines that make you a woman. So, embrace the beautiful body that you have NOW and stop waiting for the unattainable “perfect figure”.

You Have To Be In a Bedroom

While boudoir translates literally to “a woman’s bedroom,” some of the most enticing boudoir photos aren’t taken in a bedroom at all! Your boudoir shoot can take place in a variety of settings that complement who you are, the pieces you’ve chosen to wear, and the vibe you’re trying to get across.

My images are normally shot with a studio background with minimal props and instead of a bed I use an elegant chaise lounge. I prefer the lounge as it allows using a number of poses for both glamour portrait and boudoir. It's just more chic!

You Will Have Your Photos All Over the Internet

This misconception couldn’t be further from the truth. In our photo contract, we promise you that we will never share any of your photos without your written permission. I always respect the privacy of all my clients and never break that trust. The images that you see in my marketing materials and online are from clients who modeled for a specific shoot, or who granted me permission to share their shots with the world.

There is no point in taking photos that you can’t share or hang on your wall

While you may not want to hang your boudoir photos over the fireplace in your family room there are definitely ways to display your images tastefully. The most popular method is through albums or the latest craze - folio boxes, that can be discreetly placed on a shelf or on a bed side table. You could also go for a folio box with window displaying your favourite image and you could place it anywhere in you house should you wish to. Like a wall art without walls.

If you want to get a little more bold you can even hang some of your photos in your bedroom. I had a client print a few of her images on metal prints and create an art wall in her master bedroom.

But my favourite idea to date has been when a client told me that she was redecorating her master bath and wanted to use images from her boudoir session as part of her “me” space. She wanted a daily reminder of just how beautiful she really is. Love it!!

I am too shy for this. I don’t see myself as sexy.

This is an intimate portrait session. By definition it’s about intimacy, privacy and solitude. My job is to make you comfortable so you feel great in your own skin, and to draw you out to the person you know you are within. It’s YOUR version of sexy,  not anyone else’s. And, when I do my job right, you will absolutely see yourself as sexy.

I’m too old to do a boudoir session.

Are you too old to feel special? Appreciated?Beautiful? YOU get to choose to embrace who you are throughout life’s many beautiful stages. YOU get to choose how you’re styled in a way that makes sense to you. Sure, you may not be that same girl as you were in your early 20s. Now you're even better...you're a woman. Today's woman is better than yesterday's woman. Let’s go now.

I can shop around to get great deal for boudoir photography.

A woman’s private moments should never feel like “bargains”. The blatant truth here is, you’ll get what you pay for. A boudoir session is a life-changing experience, which typically includes a moderate investment. A professional photographer's trade is very expensive to run. Therefore a highly skilled, reputable boudoir photographer is almost never “cheap” and does not "deep discount". A boudoir photographer who knows their own worth also know what a great client is worth to us. We’ll go to the furthest lengths to earn every penny, with gratitude and a pursuit of excellence.

I’m too scared to do this alone. I think I need moral support!

That’s perfectly fine. While I prefer to keep sessions confined to me, my client and my hair/makeup artist only, I do allow friends to book sessions together. They often find that it’s a blast (and want to come back alone again!). I’ll warn you though, we do laugh a little too much.

My photographer is going to think my idea is crazy, but…

As artists, we are idea people. We love to hear ideas and to fulfill your wishes. And, if we cannot accommodate them, we can refer you to another photographer who may be able to. Your ideas about beauty and intimacy are yours and not up for our judgment.

My husband/ boyfriend/ partner will not like this idea

If your significant other does not appreciate the opportunity for you to feel special, confident and beautiful, that is their unfortunate choice. But you do not have to choose the same fate for yourself. You are your own person, with your own emotional needs. I respect the nature of your relationship but YOU as my client are my only priority and my person of concern.

I shouldn’t spend the money on myself.

Think of it as an investment in your self-confidence. I especially hear a lot of moms feeling guilty for spending time and money on themselves instead of their kids. I'm a big believer that you can't pour from an empty cup, and that it's important for kids to have a mom that is comfortable in her own skin and loves and accepts her body. Wouldn't you want your kids to be able to love and accept their bodies without self-criticism and doubt? An investment in yourself IS an investment in your family. Not only that, but these portraits will likely be one of the only things you purchase this year that actually appreciate in value over time.

I don’t have anything sexy to wear

Well, not wearing anything is certainly an option 🙂 But seriously - a boudoir shoot is not about shopping or reinventing yourself into who you think you "should" be. While it can be a fun excuse to buy some new bras or panties, my favorite way to photograph a woman is in her favorite everyday outfit. Even if we deconstruct it a bit (think: your favorite leather jacket with just a bra underneath), your photos should reflect exactly who you are, and part of who you are is what you like to wear and feel comfortable in.

You only need digital files

It is important to know that digital files are not archives and they can get corrupt. We do everything on our phones, tablets or computers these days and a lot of important files or all family photos are stored on these devices. Remember that these, as any other electronics, will not last forever and you need to ensure that your beautiful pictures are safe for many years and even decades to come.

You need to keep your files in a number of medias if you wish to ensure they are safe (i.e. USB flash drive, external backup drive, your computer and cloud storage like Dropbox). If most of your photo library is stored on your social media profile, just image what would happen if that portal shut down for some reason one day, where would you be with your visual legacy.

To ensure your images last a lifetime, I encourage you to invest in high quality tangible print products such as fine art prints, wall art, albums or folio boxes. These not only look beautiful and really allow you full appreciation of your art, but are designed to stand many years. You're visual legacy is much safer if you invest into good print products as well as digital files.

Glamour versus Boudoir Photography https://renataclarkephotography.com/glamour-vs-boudoir-photography/ https://renataclarkephotography.com/glamour-vs-boudoir-photography/#respond Sun, 10 Nov 2019 17:41:23 +0000 https://renataclarkephotography.com/?p=1595

What’s the difference between glamour portrait and boudoir photography?

Glamour Photography

Glamour photography focuses on the beauty of the person in the photograph. It isn’t always well understood. It is a genre that can celebrate sexual attraction. Because of this, it sometimes makes photographers or the clients apprehensive.

Glamour shots focus on physical beauty.

Photographers piece together several different aspects. This is to highlight that ethereal fairy tale beauty. From the wardrobe and makeup to lighting and post processing. All the different elements work together to celebrate the subject’s beauty. For many, glamour photography is about giving women confidence and making them feel beautiful.

For photographers, glamour photography is a portrait session. But one that maximizes the subject’s beauty. It’s a portrait session that can involve makeup, wardrobe choices, and fine-tuned poses.

Others define glamour photography as something a bit more sensual. These types of images still celebrate beauty but in a more flirtatious way. These glamour shots highlight attraction. But photographers can do that with posing and light. Not only wardrobe.

That doesn’t mean the model is always wearing revealing clothing. But sometimes photographers will define glamour as boudoir-like shots. Even if they are outside the boudoir (or bedroom).

What matters in glamour photography is how everything comes together to celebrate beauty. Whether that’s in an understated way or a more alluring one.

Boudoir Photography

A Boudoir Photography session is a very emotional experience and a gift that keeps on giving for the women, and their loved ones, who have the courage to book a shoot. A boudoir shoot is a sub-genre of glamour photography.

Boudoir also celebrates beauty, but in a more obvious sexual way.

Boudoir photography subjects are often wearing lingerie. And, as the name suggests, it takes place in a bedroom, other private location or also in the studio.

These shoots — and glamour, for that matter — aren’t about creating a response from the viewer.

Boudoir can help women feel more confident in their own skin. For example, new brides often gift their husbands with boudoir images.

In a world full of selfies, boudoir photography is meant to capture the true emotion behind each client and help people accept their bodies and value themselves.

What about glamdoir?

Glamdoir is the perfect combination of intimate or boudoir photography and glamour photography. They have the same purpose which is to celebrate YOU, your beauty, confidence and love of yourself. The only thing that makes them different is how much or little clothes you wear.

Personally I find my photography style close to glamdoir where I combine elements of both genres, often adding an editorial feel to my images. I love fashion and magazine shoots are often my inspiration in terms of posing and styling. I do prefer simple setups, in terms of styling and lighting, as I believe too much distraction takes away from the subject and may not look so chic and classy years later.

Top reasons you may want to have a glamour or boudoir session

  • to celebrate an important milestone in your life
  • to empower yourself and build up confidence
  • to give yourself or a loved one a unique gift
  • to create a visual legacy for yourself and your family
  • to nurture and heal your relationship with your body
  • to conquer fear and prove to yourself that you’re beautiful
  • because you are a badass and want the photos to prove it
  • because you worked hard for your body
  • because you kicked cancer’s ass
  • because you are proud of your scars / piercing / tattoos / strechmarks
  • because we owe it to ourselves to better our relationship to our body
